Burn Ban

Concerned over dry weather conditions that have in recent weeks contributed to a rash of wildfires that have struck the Fredericksburg area, Gillespie County Commissioners approved a burn ban.

The ban, considered a “preventative measure” prohibits any open burning in the unincorporated areas of the county.

However, the ban does allow the burning of combustible material in approved enclosures, such as trash barrels and charcoal grills which are designed to contain all flames and embers.

Other exceptions to the ban include firefighter training, public utility, natural gas pipeline or mining operations, planting or harvesting of agricultural crops as well as burns that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager.

The ban will be in place until the commissioners’ court determines the measure no longer needed.
