A Gillespie County burn ban, considered a “preventative measure” prohibits any open burning in the unincorporated areas of the county. However, a ban does allow the burning of combustible material in approved enclosures, such as trash barrels and charcoal grills which are designed to contain all flames and embers. Other exceptions to a ban include firefighter training, public utility, natural gas pipeline or mining operations, planting or harvesting of agricultural crops as well as burns that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager. The Gillespie County Commissioners Court approve a burn ban. The ban will be in place until the commissioners’ court determines the measure no longer needed. |
